Celebrating 25 years of Successful Safety Learnings

Pembrokeshire County Council’s Crucial Crew has celebrated its 25th year of providing important safety advice to year 6 pupils in Pembrokeshire.

Since 1993, more than 30,000 children across the county have learnt how to stay safe in a range of situations, thanks to advice from professionals from the emergency services, local authority and other organisations.

This year, the two-week event at Withybush Showground welcomed almost 1,300 year six pupils from 44 local primary schools, with the support of South Hook LNG and local partner agencies.

Marking the special anniversary, founding members of the very first Crucial Crew, Pembrokeshire County Council and South Hook LNG representatives joined partner agencies to proudly celebrate the important milestone.

Through a range of interactive and engaging workshops, the children participated in a variety of fun activities, receiving guidance on how to stay safe in typical everyday situations, from safety on the beach or the internet to raising awareness on how to keep safe on the road and understanding the importance of food hygiene.

Councillor Phil Baker, Cabinet Member for Planning & Infrastructure, congratulated organisers on another successful event.

“On behalf of the Council, I would like to place on record our grateful thanks to South Hook LNG for their continued support of Crucial Crew; without them, this incredibly important event for our county’s children would not take place,” he said.

“We are also very grateful to the many organisations which have participated over the years and their commitment to delivering safety messages to local pupils. Their dedication is testament to how much they care about educating our young people about safety.

“We would also like to recognise the support given to the event by the Pembrokeshire Agricultural Society.”

Mariam Dalziel, PR Manager at South Hook LNG said after the event, “We are proud to support an initiative that promotes such strong safety messages – particularly during such a significant anniversary year - and congratulate everyone involved on yet another successful event.”

Organisations at this year’s Crucial Crew were the Wales Ambulance Service, Pembrokeshire County Council’s Road Safety, Transport and Domestic Abuse teams together with Food Safety/ Food Standards Agency, Western Power Distribution, the RNLI, Dyfed Powys Police, Mid and West Wales Fire & Rescue Service.
